Gobi Desert is one of the main attractions Mongolia has to offer. Contrary to expectations of many people, the Gobi Desert is a place full of life and unique sceneries. This tour will let you fully experience some of the most beautiful places in the country that are both culturally and historically significant to the Mongolian people.
Gobi Desert – Yol Valley, Khongor Sand Dunes, Bayanzag and Karakorum
Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, you will be greeted by your guide and driver. Transfer to a hotel. If time permits, optional half or full day city tours are available on request.
Early morning, begin your journey to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a unique formation of rocks. Visit ruins of an ancient temple and explore the area. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay in a Ger camp (LD).
After breakfast at the camp, drive to Tsagaan Suvarga which may be translated as the White Stupa. The name was given to this limestone cliff because of the way it looks from a far. Hiking and photo shooting opportunities will be present. Overnight stay in a Ger camp. (B/L/D)
Drive further south. Arrive at the Three Beauties Mountain range of the Gobi National Park. Spend the day on an excursion to Yol Valley, hiking and enjoying stunning photographic opportunities. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay in a Ger camp (B/L/D).
After breakfast drive to Khongor Sand Dunes known as the Singing Dunes. A climb up to the sand dunes will be rewarded with breathtaking views. In the evening observe a spectacular sunset, be sure to prepare your cameras. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay in a Ger camp (B/L/D).
Drive to the world-famous Flaming Cliffs (Bayanzag), rich in saxaul trees of Gobi. Explore the site of the first paleontological discoveries in Mongolia by following the footsteps of Roy Chapman Andrews (January 26, 1884 – March 11, 1960), an American explorer, adventurer and naturalist. Lunch, dinner, and overnight stay in a Ger camp (B/L/D)
After breakfast, drive north and visit the ruins of the once great Ongi Monastery. Tour the monastic grounds that are undergoing renovation and learn the Monastery’s history. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger camp (B/L/D)
After breakfast, drive to Karakorum, once the capital of the 13th century Great Mongol Empire. Visit Erdene-Zuu Monastery, which was the first and the largest monastery in Mongolia built on the ruins of the ancient capital. Tour the monastery and visit several temples with excellent examples of Buddhist Thangka paintings and statues dating back to the 17th century. Visit the Karakorum museum. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger camp (B/L/D).
After breakfast, begin a return trip to Ulaanbaatar. Lunch on the way. Upon arrival in the city, transfer to the hotel for check in. (B/L).
Transfer to the airport or the train station for international departure.
