Khamariin Khiid

Located in Eastern Gobi, Khamariin Khiid Monastery was founded in 1820 by Saint Danzanravjaa of Red-hat sect. Red-hat sect monks supported education, literacy of the masses regardless of age and sex, allowed its monks to serve in armies and allowed marriages for their monks. This monastery grew to include 80 temples housing 5000 monks before its destruction in 1937.
