Mongolia is known as the cradle of ancient nomadic empires. Countless khirigsuur, the burial mounds of ancient chieftains, deer stones and stellas with runic inscriptions remind us of the glorious past of the nomadic tribes of the ancient empires who roamed freely in the steppes of Central Asia.

Day 1 Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to selected hotel. After check-in to hotel, we will do short city tour including Chinggis (Sukhbaatar) Square, Chinggis Khaan Monument, The State History Museum of Mongolia and National History Museum. Have a welcoming dinner.

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar - Khustai National Park

After breakfast, we will drive to the Khustai National Park. After lunch, we will view a short documentary at the information hall. Then we will drive through the National Park to visit the ancient Turkic site of ancestral rites and see the human stones. Afterwards, we will drive back deep into the National Park to see an ancient burial site and a deer stone followed by a search of Przewalski horses (takhi), ancestor of all modern-day horses in the world. If you have binoculars, please bring them. Overnight in tourist GER camp

Day 3 Khustai National Park – Karakorum

After breakfast, we will drive to Karakorum, once the capital of the 13th century Great Mongol Empire. Visit the Karakorum museum before dinner.

Day 4 Karakorum – Khushuu Tsaidam – Ugii Lake

Today we will visit Erdene-Zuu Monastery, which was the first and the largest monastery in Mongolia built on the ruins of the ancient capital. After lunch, we will drive to Ugii lake. On the way, we will visit Khushuu Tsaidam, a historical site and a museum complex where we will learn about the rise and fall of the Turkic empire.

Day 5 Lake Ugii-Tsetserleg-Taikhar Rock

After breakfast, we will drive to Tsetserleg, the Arkhangai province centre, where we will visit a local museum. We will continue our drive and will arrive at a ger camp for lunch. In the afternoon, we will see the Taikhar rock and then drive to an ancient site with petroglyphs carved on rocks by the ancestors of the nomadic warriors who built empires in the steppe. On the way back to our camp, we will see another remarkable burial site and a deer stone.

Day 6 Taikhar Rock – Jargalantyn Am – Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake

Today we will have a long drive to visit Jargalantyn Am valley, an impressive site with numerous burial mounds and deer stones left by the Xiongnu, ancestors of the modern-day Mongolians known as the Huns in the western world. We will drive to Terkhiin Tsagaan lake. Picnic lunch on the way.

Day 7 Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake – Jargalant Hot Springs

Today we will climb the Khorgo extinct volcano crater, visit the one-man cave and the Yellow dog’s hell cave. Enjoy a short hiking around the lake shore before lunch at the ger camp. We will drive to Jargalant hot springs after lunch and enjoy a natural hot spa in the evening. Overnight in tourist GER camp

Day 8 Jargalant Hot Springs – Khuvsgul Lake

Today we will drive to Khuvsgul lake. We will drive through Murun, the province centre and continue to the Uushgiin uvur site where we will see the unique deer stone with a human face carved on it. There are more deer stones on the way to the lake including the tallest deer stone discovered in Mongolia.

Day 9 Khuvsgul Lake

Today we will relax after long days of driving. Optional boat ride, horse riding and hiking along the beautiful lake shore are available. You also can try yourself at fishing. Ask your camp staff for fishing equipment rental availability. Overnight in tourist GER camp

Day 10 Khuvsgul Lake -Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast, we will drive back to Murun town to take flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, visit a cashmere factory on a factory tour, followed by a visit to a factory outlet for cashmere shopping opportunity. Check-in to your hotel. Before dinner, we will enjoy Mongolian traditional folklore concert. Overnight in selected hotel (B/L/D)

Day 11 Departure

Check out from hotel. Transfer to airport. Departure (B)
