NORTHERN MONGOLIA

KHUVSGUL LAKE

Khuvsgul nuur is located in the northwest of Mongolia near the Russian border, at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645 metres above sea level, 136 kilometres long and 262 metres deep. It is the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia, and holds almost 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water and 0.4% of all the fresh water in the world. The town of Hatgal is at the southern end of the lake.Its watershed is relatively small, and it only has small tributaries. It gets drained at the south end by the Egiin Gol, which connects to the Selenge and ultimately into Lake Baikal

AMARBAYASGALANT MONASTERY

Amarbayasgalant or the “Monastery of Tranquil Felicity” is one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centers in Mongolia. The monastery complex is located in the Iven Valley near the Selenge River, at the foot of Mount Bьren-Khaan in Baruunbьren sum of Selenge Province in northern Mongolia. The nearest town is Erdenet which is about 60 km to the southwest. The monastery was established and funded by order of Manchu emperor Kang Xi or Enkh-Amgalan Khan to serve as a final resting place for Zanabazar (1635–1723), the first Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, or spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism for the Khalkha in Outer Mongolia.

URAN TOGOO

Uran Togoo is one of the oldest volcanoes in Mongolia. The Uran-Togoo and Tulga Uul Natural Monument is a national protected area in the Bulgan Province of Mongolia. This mountain ranks as 4th highest mountain in Bulgan province. It is located about 60 km directly west of Bulgan city around the extinct volcanoes Uran Togoo, Tulga Togoo, and Jalavch Uul. Uran Uul is a pretty good place to break the journey to Khuvsgul.

ZUUN LAKE

Zuun Lake is a beautiful little lake. It is located 2300 meters above sea level. It is very nice place to walk and to explore, also great place for bird watchers. Also near the area, you can visit nomadic families to experience their unique lifestyle.

KHORGO TERKH NATIONAL PARK

Khorgo Terkh National Park was named by Khorgiin Togoo (Shelter pan) which is formed by volcanic eruption. The Shelter`s pan is 200m wide and 100m deep. Its location is on the east shore of Terkh White Lake (Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur). The lake is situated over 2000m above from sea level and its size is 4km wide, 16km long and 20m deep.
